Fighting Cancer with Candice

Donation protected
Candy has been my friend for 19 years and is now my soon to be sister-in-law. But, actually, we have always consider each other family! We have been through quite a bit together throughout the years. We have experienced marriages, divorces, deaths, births, and an array of the things we all encounter with jobs, kids, etc.. I don't think any of that prepared us for what Candy is facing right now.
In December, Candy was told one of the scariest things a woman could ever hear. "I am sorry, but you have cancer."
Candy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Luckily, it was caught early and her prognosis is great, which is what we all wanted to hear. She will need surgery and will be out of work in order to recover and that is what this is about.
Candy is having a double mastectomy with reconstruction on January 18, 2019. Along with the fear, anxiety and emotion that she will be experiencing, she is petrified that she will not be able to pay her mortgage, utilities and keep food on the table.
She is a single mom of a 16 year old son, Jacob & a 7 year old daughter, Allison, that live at home with her. She also has an older son, Justin, and daughter-in-law, Ashley,  who have given her the most adorable grandson, Justin, Jr.. Candy is a full time Phlebotomist at UHS and before that she worked for Lourdes. Candy is the sole provider of her household of herself and two youngest children. She usually works overtime and picks up extra hours on a weekly basis in order to make sure that her kids never go without anything. She is definitely one of the hardest workers and dedicated moms that I have ever met!
Unfortunately, Candy does not have short term disability. She also has used all of her PTO (paid time off) that she had accrued thus far, for all of the appointments since the biopsy/diagnosis. Candy will have to take the fist full week completely unpaid before disability kicks in. Then, once disability does kick in, she will only receive the maximum of $170 per week.  In four weeks she still wouldn't make what she normally would bring home in a single paycheck. It will be impossible for her to pay her bills and take care of her family.
I am asking everyone to please help my dear friend and her family get through this hard time. She shouldn't have to worry about anything but fighting this cancer and recovering! Anything you can donate will help!
Also, if you are an employee of UHS, please consider donating PTO. That is literally just as helpful! If you don't have the cash, donating a few hours would put more money in Candy's paycheck and would be so greatly appreciated!!
Thank you in advance for your help and please keep Candice and the family in your prayers!
