Fighting Cancer - Journey to Laos

Update 4.21.2018
In December, we thought our mother would have her final Chemo session, almost like a Christmas miracle. The smile on her face while she rang the bell to signify it, was by far a smile I haven't seen in such a long time.  She was in great spirits and was absolutely happy.  Seeing her like this brought tears of joy.

But...this past month when we went in for her check up, received the most devastating news. It seems my mother's cancer has come back even more aggressive...Stage 4.  It spread to near her Aorta. It's too dangerous for her to have surgery since it's so close her heart and it now requires an even stronger chemo treatment.  We are trying to keep the faith and get through this...we have to help her win this fight.

My sisters and I are saddened that our goal to take our parents to Laos isn't going to happen...anytime soon.  The ability to travel with your loved ones is something we tend to take for granted.  I am hoping one day that my mother will be healthy enough to visit me in Chicago.

Right now, we are focused on helping her get back to a healthy state, physically and mentally.  The money that has been raised in this campaign will be used to help pay her medical bills.  We thank you all for the support and love through this tough time.

--------------

This past March, our family was hit with devastating news when my mother, PV Southammavong, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. This was a complete shock to us all and it's taken a toll on us in many ways.  My mother has been our rock and now is our turn to take care of her.  Never have I ever seen her so helpless until this illness. She was my example of strength. Nothing stopped her...but now life is extremely real. The woman who wouldn't sit down and spent her days cooking up amazing meals and taking care of her 4 grandkids, now barely has energy to get up to do simple tasks.

She had the major surgery in May to get as much of the cancer out and now she's undergoing chemo. It's completely defeated her spirit. Her treatment is set to end in Dec-Jan. My wonderful father has proven to be the most amazing man I know. He cleans the house, cooks, and takes care of my mother when me and my sisters aren't there.  Their love is so honorable.

I'm making it my goal to raise money to send both her and my father to Laos (our homeland) when she's recovered and healthy again.  They haven't been back in over 10 years!  With the financial burden of medical bills, I'm asking for your help to make this wish come true. I really want them to smile like this again...
