In 2019 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. She went through chemotherapy and radiation which drastically shrunk the size of her tumors. She was still going through immunotherapy and on an oxygen machine when things got worse. Her oxygen machine exploded and fire went through the tubes while she was wearing it. She was transported to a Hospital in Texas since there were no ICU burn units close to wear she lives in Oklahoma. She sustained severe burns, was put on a breathing machine, and kept sedated a lot of the time. While there, the medications and trauma caused severe abdominal issues that resulted in multiple surgeries. They attempted to take her off of the breathing machine and they were unsuccessful. The hospital contacted us (the family) and requested we let her pass. They did this multiple times. At this point she was fully there and aware. We made many calls and found a rehab that would take her case. Thank God! She ended up staying in the rehab for almost a month and then was back home with no breathing machine and able to get around. We were so thankful!! She went through a few more surgeries to repair her nose/airway. She started to get weak and have a lot of dizziness soon after. At a follow up with her oncologist she found out she now had brain tumors. She just completed the radiation and we have not received the final news from the oncologist. Praying for great news!
Through this entire process her husband has been her full time care-taker. Kathy has not been able to fully get around on her own or take care of herself without his assistance. When she was diagnosed with brain tumors she started to fall frequently. Even breaking her wrist one of the times.
He had to quit his job to be there for her. The savings has run out and the bills still need to be paid every month. Anything will help in this time of great need.
