My sister met and eventually married her husband in Australia in the late 1980’s. Married for 17 years, she now finds herself living in the USA taking on the biggest challenge of her life.
It was a huge commitment for her to move away from family and everything familiar to her and her son to head to her new husband’s home in the USA, but it was a commitment she made through her marriage. Fast forward 17 years later and that same person is now a struggling single mother with nothing to show for all the commitment that she contributed towards her marriage. Her only downfall was to be a believer in her marriage and trust her husband 100%. When this failed her dismally, she was left with no employment, no house, nothing. Her shining light is her son, who amongst all of this has had his ability to leave the USA taken from him through the expensive and ongoing legal processes, which, through not being able to afford, she is unable to defend her son and herself against.
Although she is now working, she is currently without a lawyer and is finding it soul destroying to be unable to have her voice heard. Recent proceedings have barred her from having the right to bring her son to see his family in Australia at a time when family support and some friendly faces would be the best gift of all for her and her son.
She is a generous, caring and very giving individual; is incredibly selfless and non materialistic and she gives of herself like no one I know.
Destroyed by the complete distrust she suffered and having to battle on, I want to be able to show her that there is a caring and loving world out there that can buoy you in your darkest times and offer a ray of light. I hope to raise some funds for her so that she can be represented to stand up for herself and her son in court; so that she can have a brighter future for them both and so that one day in the not too distant future I will be able to hold them both on the front lawn of my house in Australia.
