Fight the Fight-Derek and Kara

Donation protected
On September 15th 2012 my nephew Derek and Kara were married and then less than 1 month later in October of 2012 Kara was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma and had to have surgery shortly thereafter to remove a tumour - after Kara went home she had to go to the hospital every day for Chemotherapy - Kara never wavered and with every ounce of herself she maintained a positive outlook - reassuring all of us that everything was going to be okay - she was doing much better with the diagnosis than we all were.  Kara beat the first round of this awful disease and was free from the tumour until 3 years later (2015) when they let her know that the tumour had returned - again Kara had to have surgery.

As I am writing this Kara and Derek are in Vancouver (December 2016) where Kara has  again for the 3rd time undergone surgery to remove a tumour that had grown quite aggressively (the Dr’s in Saskatoon would not operate to remove the tumour advising her that she must undergo another round of Chemotherapy/Radiation with hopes that this course of treatment would reduce the tumour) - Being the fighter that Kara is she did research and found a Dr. in Vancouver (Dr. Toyota) who would perform what was to be a less invasive surgery to remove the tumour.  The new procedure that Derek and Kara were hoping Dr. Toyota would be able to perform is less invasive with a quicker recovery time, however, this was not to be - the Dr. did more medical tests and he determined that it was best if he remove the tumour by other means.  The recovery is taking a little longer this time and their stay in Vancouver has been extended.  Derek and Kara are hoping to be back home in time for Christmas.

Now, anyone who knows Derek and Kara know that they are always there to help whoever needs help - and anyone who knows Derek and Kara know that they both have a whole lot of pride and they are the last ones to ever ask for help from anyone (they aren’t even asking this time - we are as their family)  We are setting this Go Fund Me Page up to help Derek and Kara ease some of the financial burden while Kara is recovering - You see there is no out of province coverage and Derek and Kara are paying for everything on their own (gladly)- the Flights to and from Vancouver,  the Hotel accommodations for Derek while Kara is in the hospital, the medical consultations, the Surgery and Derek has taken time off of work to be with Kara in Vancouver while she is recovering - There will be follow up appointments once Kara is back in Saskatoon and Kara will be off work for an undetermined time while she heals.

Derek and Kara both have the will to fight against this battle again that they face. Those who surround them and love them will fight with them and let them know that we will not surrender.  You see Cancer does not Own Kara - Kara owns herself and she will SURVIVE.

Thanking you all in advance for your donations.

“Cancer may have started the Fight, but together Derek and Kara will finish it”
