Fight Matty Fight!

On Friday, September 7th, Matthew Crosby (Matty) had an unfortunate accident while working. He suffered severe injuries resulting in a substantial amount of internal bleeding. Many blood transfusions later the doctors at Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital determined it would be best to transfer him via helicopter to a Trauma hospital in hopes to better accommodate his critical condition. Tampa and Sarasota Hospital denied the request for transport because they believed it would be too risky and he ultimately would not make it.
The doctors at Venice Regional Bayfront Hospital stated he only had a matter of hours left to live. There was one option left but his outlook would be very poor. They would open his chest cavity in hopes to find the source of bleeding. With Matt losing blood faster then he was receiving it the doctors explained to us that the surgery was a "hail mary" attempt to save his life. We wanted them to do all they could to save Matty so we agreed to the surgery.
Being the fighter that he is, he beat the odds and was now recovering from surgery. He was put on life support and kidney dialysis from the result of having blood saturation in multiple organs, causing organ failure. He had three chest tubes inserted to help with the drainage of bleeding. Filters had been inserted in his groin to stop any potential blood clots from traveling to his heart and lungs causing a pulmonary embolism. He also developed MRSA and pneumonia due to intubation.
As the bleeding was subsiding and Matt was slowly making progress he developed a life threatening lung condition called Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. A condition that happens to critical ill patients which prevents oxygen from getting to the lungs and into the blood. His lungs were now saturated at a cellular level. We were now told "this will potentially be what takes him".
Once again Matty beat the odds and fought for his life. As his numbers progressed he was slowly taken off sedation and came to. He awoke to a tracheotomy leaving him temporarily unable to talk, a feeding tube, three chest tubes and multiple other lines through his body. As you can imagine he was extremely confused and highly agitated with no means to communicate with us.
Two days upon waking he started making miraculous progress! He was able to take a few steps, say a few words, and of course spit out some Matt humor that we all were desperately waiting to hear. Our prayers were being answered. Matt truly is a walking miracle.
With Matt's condition it will take months of pulmonary and physical therapy to get him back to health. With not being able to work and accruing astronomical medical bills we are asking for your help in donating to Matt. If you are unable to donate we please ask that you continue to send prayers and positive thoughts his way. He has a very long road to recovery!
