<div>In May of 2023, Ruby was diagnosed with a Diffuse Anaplastic Wilms Tumour at 18 months old. The most gut wrenching news as a parent is to hear the words "Your child has cancer."

<div>The hell Ruby and our family(ies) have endured over the past two years is unimaginable, unless you've personally been affected by cancer or supported a loved one through it all
</div>

</div>
<div>42 weeks of grueling chemo,
</div>
<div>3 weeks of radiotherapy,
</div>
<div>And, surgery/recovery after removing a 1.9kg tumour along with her right kidney.
</div>
<div>Not to mention the many hurdles that came along and will continue to do so for her and our families lifetime
</div>

<div>We had finally been gifted some wonderful news, almost a year later on April of 2024 - Ruby had no cancer detectable in her little body. (Cue happy tears) It was still another 3 months before Ruby had ceased side effects of the treatment and we started to get back to some sort of normality. Finally, we could try and give some of Ruby's childhood back to her that cancer had taken away ❤️‍

<div>Our little Ruby is an absolute superstar. Her strength has kept us strong through these unimaginable times. A truly admirable, determined and gorgeous girl who has adapted to a cruel situation for a child of her age

<div>Sadly, as we set off on our holiday in February this year, to celebrate life and the end of hospital stays and appts, we were yet again delivered some soul shattering news. Ruby had relapsed! Her cancer was back! Two tumours growing on her right lung
</div>

<div>Diffuse Anaplastic Wilms is no joke and we have a very anxious time ahead. Unfortunately, Ruby's odds are slimmer than before, but we are throwing everything we have at it! Part of her tumour has been sent off to a lab in Australia (Zero Childhood Cancer) in hopes of finding a more targeted treatment. Two tumours have now been removed from her lungs, each requiring different dates of surgery. They left the second tumour in for longer to see how it would react to the chemo she's receiving. Ruby has had her stem cells harvested for a different approach to treatment and will be doing high intensity chemotherapy too. The stem cells will then be placed back into her body to help her body fight and recover from the intensity of the treatment. She will also have radiotherapy again towards the end of her protocol.

<div>Ruby's amazing Oncologist has been nothing short of supportive and doing everything in her will to help give Ruby the best plan of attack. She's opted for a hybrid protocol in hopes that this will defeat the tumours. Brett and myself try our hardest to be optimistic about the future. Which is hard when you've been given such a poor prognosis. Even if Ruby makes it past this protocol. She then has a 90% relapse rate. It feels like the the odds are against us all.

<div>But what if?! What if she's in that tiny 10% that doesn't relapse!! We can only hope. And hope is what we're holding onto ✨️

<div>This is not an easy journey and to re-live it again is a nightmare come true. We've had to adjust our life ever so quickly again a few short months ago and try to create a home away from home for our beautiful family of 5. Just to give people an insight as to how the money raised is utilised, is as follows: medication, fuel, groceries, travel to and from hospital, storage for our belongings, various other bills and the list goes on. I know it doesn't seem like much, but to us when we're not able to work, it's huge! As funds deplete so quickly.
