Fight Cancer with Eileen

Donation protected
There are very few days when you will see Eileen without a smile. She is an extremely positive person who tries to find the best in every situation. She is a loving mother to her three children, Kevin, Kyle and Lauren and works a full-time job in retail. However, 2016 proved to be a very difficult year for her. Her divorce to her husband of over 30 years became finalized and she became financially stressed trying to make ends meet.

Things became even harder for in October when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. The cancer had started in her ovaries and spread to her liver and lymph nodes. She started chemotherapy in November and in February, had surgery that was able to remove most of the tumors from her body. This outpatient procedure became a week-long stay at the hospital due to complications.

After recovering she once again started chemotherapy to attempt to kill the remaining cancer in her body.  In July, the tumor in her liver was still present so she went through a targeted radiation treatment called Y90. Unfortunately the treatment was not successful, so she continued with chemotherapy due to the current belief that the tumor was inoperable.

After getting a second opinion in February of 2018, she underwent her second major surgery at Johns Hopkins where surgeons were able to remove the tumor from her liver. This highly complex surgery included reconstructing her bile ducts and removing half of the liver. She spent another week in the hospital and returned home with high spirits. A few weeks later she became ill and returned to Johns Hopkins. The reconstructed bile duct did not heal properly and she had to go through a series of highly painful procedures that gradually increased the size of her bile duct over 2 weeks.

When she was able to leave the hospital she thought that she was finally in the clear and cancer-free. Over the next few months she still found herself in the hospital due to falling ill from her weakened immune system. In June, scans discovered that the cancer had returned in her liver. She once again started chemotherapy and has currently gone through 17 rounds of chemotherapy since the start of her fight in 2016, more than twice the average rounds for most cancer patients. Since February 2018, she has been in and out of the hospital every month with different ailments such as blood infections and urinary tract infections.

Through her journey she has always kept the smile on her face and kept her positive attitude. But unfortunately, her strong fight against cancer has left her with a large amount of medical bills she cannot afford. We appreciate any donation you can give as it will help her to continue her battle and hopefully one day become cancer-free.
