Field Trip for My Students

I was recently contacted by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to see if I would be interested in taking a group of students to see the musical Hamilton when it comes to Pittsburgh.  I was able to reserve 50 tickets but need help raising the money to pay for them (which is due September 26th!).  The tickets cost $100 each and are all the way in the second mezzanine, but this was such a once in a lifetime opportunity that I had to say yes!  

My school recently proposed eliminating ALL funding for field trips, so I plan to ask students to help cover the cost of the bus in order to attend the show.  For anyone who knows me, I certainly don't want them to think they get to do this for free!  In order to attend, I plan on having a lottery based on three key components: Overall attendance, overall grades, and overall behavior.

We have a diverse student demographic with up to two thirds of our students receiving free or reduced lunch in some schools.  Some of these kids would never have the opportunity to see a live show if it weren't for the field trips, which is why the funding elimination is so crushing.  With the cast of Hamilton being so diverse, I know this opportunity will be a huge inspiration to ALL of my kids, reaffirming part of my teaching philosophy: The arts are for everybody!
