My husband, Edward has been in education for almost 30 years, here in Las Vegas. He will be closing that chapter of his life this spring . However, his wish is that no child want for anything.
When a child walks into your classroom even 30 years into your teaching career without a coat because they can't afford one, it breaks your heart for them.
The basic things like shoes, jackets, and clothing are things that most of us take for granted. His kids are wearing very worn out shoes and sometimes shoes that are too big for their feet.
Edward has been extremely impacted by children in his 8 classes at Garside Middle School. After having taught science in high school for many years and then becoming a Dean of Students. He never thought he would return to the classroom. After having had a heart attack & triple bypass, he decided to return to the classroom to only find that he had kids with amazing dreams, even under the tough circumstances they have been given in life.
He has a heart for children! We have donated and purchased many things over the years for children, but this time our task is much bigger. Edward would like to be able to give each of the children in his classroom at Garside Middle School, a Nike gift card to help them buy a new pair of shoes or something at the Nike Outlet.
After sitting down together we realized this is not a task we can do alone. It would cost us out of pocket over $11,700.00 dollars to give each of them a $50.00 gift card.
So, more realistically maybe we could do $10.00 to $25.00 per child and at least that might give them something towards the purchase of a new pair of shoes, socks, or an item of clothing.
Edward doesn't want a retirement party for himself, he wants these kids to get something that they need. So, he would like to ask you to consider donating to this cause to help him celebrate his 30 years of service to benefit his kids.
Edward & I, and all of the kids would be so very grateful to all of you that could help. This would show them that they are not forgotten and that this world is a much better place to live in, than it looks like sometimes. That it is full of people who care about their future.
