What do you say about the girl who everyone refers to as one of their best friends?
This story is about Jessica Erickson-DuPree, a 35 year old mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and best friend to many. Loving, outgoing, and the life of any party, is the best way to describe her. She is married to her adoring husband Woodrow DuPree III and they have a beautiful 13 year old daughter Jocelyn DuPree.
Their journey of a family did not start off the way most people's do. Before there was Jocelyn, there was the first signs of ovarian cancer. At the early age of 19, they found a tumor on Jessica's ovary. At that time, it was decided the best option would be to remove one ovary. Shortly after this first scare, Jessica became pregnant. The couple was thrilled! Unfortunately, a second tumor was found on the opposite ovary while she was pregnant. It was a risk, but Jessica went into surgery for a second time, while pregnant with her daughter. Miraculously, the surgery went well and their daughter was born unharmed. At this time, all was well. It seemed that they had made it through this cancer scare. Unfortunately, in the spring of 2013 Jessica's cancer made it's return. This time the cancer had moved locations, and surgery wasn't going to solely work. For the first time she was going to have to start chemotherapy. Again she fought hard, and the chemo seemed to work. For the next year, after her treatments had ended, they monitored her levels and the cancer seemed to be under control. This summer, the cancer returned, and this time it's more aggressive than ever. Since then, she has undergone more surgery, a trial drug, and now chemotherapy again.
As we sit here feeling helpless, we wonder what can we do as friends to help her. As you can imagine, the stress of being this ill is a lot for one person to handle. You fear for your family's future and endure many financial hardships. We would like to ease some of that burden by asking for any sort of financial donation for the family during this difficult time.
