FGDA Covid Relief Fund 2021

The Fernanda Ghi Dance Academy (FGDA)
is unique and a gift to the Argentine
Tango community and Greater Boston Area. This campaign was initiated and created by members of the Boston Tango community on behalf of FGDA.

First, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your help with the GoFundMe campaign that began over the summer.  It is solely because of your support that we reached our goal, allowing Fernanda and Mia to keep the studio open and running.  From the depths of our hearts, THANK YOU.

The Academy instituted many changes to adjust to the brutal pandemic (and year!), offering smaller group classes and online private sessions.  For those who managed to participate in person and through zoom, thank you.  For all who could not continue to study, we are especially grateful for your ongoing support.  Now that the vaccines are rolling out, we anticipate moving toward a "new normal."  Studio safety, aiming at the continued health of all our dancers will remain paramount.  It is our hope that by late spring or early summer, we will gather as one large community to celebrate the beginning of a new era.

We are looking forward to new beginnings, and in the meantime, Fernanda and Mia continue to work heroically to keep the Academy afloat.  Once again, they are in dire financial straits. The bills keep pouring in and the ongoing loss of revenue takes its toll.  To cover rent and electricity through the spring, we need to make one last effort.

Our goal?  To raise $16,000 in the next 4 weeks.

To survive, The Fernanda Ghi Dance Academy needs our help.  Let's do it again!  We are part of an extraordinary community.  For each of us, dance remains at the center of our lives.  We are almost there - weekend practica, monthly milonga, music, wine, tango, close embrace, connection, and so much more...  Until then, we invite you to give whatever you can.  No donation is too small.

With much gratitude,
FGDA Community Fund Raiser Group

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

"Sometimes after a private class, I jot down notes regarding things to work on.  Recently, I stumbled upon one from August 2017.  I smiled as I realized everything I was working on in the dance at that moment, I was also working on in my life.

Stop anticipating the next step.  When you are unsure, do this:  Chin up, don’t look down, expand your chest and arms.  Stay grounded and rooted into the floor with your upper body reaching up.  Hold your axis and core strong.  Do not collapse into your partner but do not pull away either.  Get out of your head.  Be kind with yourself and your partner.  Breathe.  Slow down.  Be present.  Listen carefully.  And wait patiently for what is about to unfold..."

"We’ve always joked among ourselves about how FGDA is our mania, our obsession, our addiction.  But only now during this painful prolonged suspension have I come to realize how much it has been at the center of my life."

"Dance (especially tango) makes me feel full, whole, totally at peace. It’s been my happy place. It has been a blessing to find dedicated instructors like Fernanda and Mia. Fernanda and Mia have not only created a beautiful space to dance, but they go above and beyond (with patience) to ensure their students learn the proper technique. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them. I look forward to a time when we will all be able to come together again, to dance a Tanda with a favorite partner (at the Saturday Practica and Milonga) and to converse and connect with a diverse group of people who simply share the love of Tango. Unfortunately, we don’t know when that time will be. In the meantime, just hoping that our community will survive may not be enough. Let ‘s support our studio and teachers so that they can continue to use their gifts and talents, and we can continue to look forward to coming together."
