Hello, my name is Alex. I have a skin disease called Hidradenitis suppurativa. I have had it since I was 16 years old, and have had surgery 2 times in the hope of some success. This time they used an open wound technique which is by far the most painful method I've encountered. I thought I was in pain before but now it’s so much worse. The first time I had surgery was last Valentine's Day and my wounds have been open since then. I'm going to be starting hyperbaric chamber treatments soon but I don’t know how long I’ll have to do this. I'm hoping it helps me heal faster. I won't be able to return to work like I thought I would for at least a few months. I could possibly do light duty, but for those of you who don't know, I work in a hospital and I can't really be around patients with my open wounds. I'm in so much debt from hospital visits, home nursing, medical equipment, and two surgeries (the first was basically botched). When I bring up starting a GoFundMe I'm shamed, I don't like asking for help but as much as I hate to admit it, I need it. I have no permanent solution after everything I’ve been through. Right now I just want my arms closed and to be done. I'm living with ugly and very large scars and I'm trying to love myself all over again. My future goal in life is to spread awareness and raise money. The global prevalence rate of Hidradenitis suppurativa is estimated to be about 1%. However, because the skin condition is often misdiagnosed it could be more. Treatment can help, but this condition can't be cured. It is so unknown to many doctors and even dermatologists that it took around 10 doctors to diagnose me after going through many painful procedures. This is my disease and it needs more recognition.
