João Carlos is a 18 year-old teenager who has a pervasive developmental disorder with autistic traits. João lives in Portugal with his mother and despite his poor verbal and motor skills has a dream: getting his voice back and becoming a doctor so as to help other autistic children or people afflicted by other ailments.
João Carlos loves writing and despite his autism and challenges has written a book about autism published in June 2014, by Porto Editora- Portugal, entitled O Menino de Deus ( God's little Boy) . He is the first Portuguese citizen with Autism to do so.
João claims that he wants to give voice to those that like himself do not have a voice and although he struggles to write needing the support of his mother's hand to do so because of his poor fine motor skills he is determined to make his dream come true. He has also published the book with the intent to raise funds for his treatment but expenses far outweigh the needs. João undergoes a biomedical treatment with supplements, follows a gfcf diet, has behavioral therapy, expressive arts therapy and pranic healing.
In order to raise funds and help João Carlos make his dream come true this crowdfunding has been set up. Supplements, therapy, sport activities add up to 2.800€ per month.
There is also the intent to take João Carlos to the USA, The Option Institute to undergo the Son-Rise Program Intensive, adding up to 16.500€ excluding air fares.
