FFCA Move-A-Thon

At FFCA, issues of social justice are at the core of the values that define our curriculum and our particular approach to early childhood education.  We believe it is vital that we teach our students to be active and empowered members of not only their classrooms but of the local and global communities as well.  Through different projects and community involvement, our students learn that they can impact change in their own lives and the lives of others. On June 13th and 15th, FFCA students at both campuses will participate in a morning of movement and fun.  Our families will come together as a celebration of learning on Tikun Olam ( repairing the world).

This year, we are raising money for the The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre in honour of an FFCA parent, Dave Sheffe, who passed away tragically only a few weeks ago.  Dave, Heather, Ella and Marlowe Sheffe have been part of the FFCA community for over 4 years and it is our honour to raise money in Dave's memory for a cause that he was connected to professionally and passionate about.

The Dr. Jay Children's Grief Centre is a unique organization that bridges a critical gap in support for children, youth and families living with terminal illness, traumatic loss and grief.  The Centre is one of the only places in Canada that provides free counselling and specialized programming to children, youth and families as they navigate the unimaginably difficult journey of living with grief.  The Centre’s unique programs have been developed to meet the diverse needs of grieving clients (0-21 yrs) and to support, educate and empower families to learn to live with loss and grief in a way that makes life feel manageable and meaningful again.

The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre provides this vital support to children, youth and families without government funding and their programs are only made possible with donor support.

A Message from DJCGC:

For the past 3 years, the Centre’s Camp Erin Toronto program has been running out of Camp Manitou, which is where the Centre staff and volunteers first met Dave Sheffe.  Dave’s kind, generous and engaging spirit made him a pleasure to work with and will be deeply missed by the Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Centre/Camp Erin Toronto communities.
