Help Berns Restore Her Smile

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to visit my new GoFundMe page. If you don’t know me already, my name is Bernadette. Or Bernie, or Berns. I love cats, all animals, Darth Vader and Star Wars, Mr. Robot, writing, dancing and creating fantasy enamel pins.

I am also a breast cancer survivor and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD.

First, I want to thank everyone who helped me raise $13,800 in Spring 2015. (How has it been that long?)

Over the years, there had been a lot of back and forth with different surgeons and various specialists. Things just never went any further. The specialists weren’t talking to each other, and I began to feel that I was being ignored and then ultimately ghosted. It was a very frustrating and exhausting time.

Life went on and I stopped looking, stopped trying to find a dental team that would actually work with me and take my complicated case on.

Six weeks ago, it finally happened. I gathered enough courage to reach out to different surgeons. Then I found “the one.” Since then, treatment has already started, and I couldn’t be happier.

The estimate I received is for the surgical treatment only, and that alone is $31,000. I have minimal coverage through my employer, even so most of the surgeries aren’t even covered. But thanks to my previous fundraiser and people’s generosity, I am almost half way there!

Treatment will take approximately 18 months, perhaps longer. It all depends on how I heal after each surgery.

The pain has been constant, and talking, smiling and eating have become even more difficult. I have been avoiding social situations due to these issues, which have taken a toll on my well-being.

A healthy smile can transform lives. And with your help, I will be able to regain my oral health and have the chance to smile brighter and face the world with confidence.
