Santa's Coming to Sophie's Place!

This fundraiser is near and dear to my heart. My sister, Sakina, was born with a rare disease called Dandy-Walker Syndrome, which challenged her in many ways and yet never impeded on her ability to exude love, joy, and affection without words to all those who came into contact with her. Sakina, our bright light, who is no longer with us, inspired my family to give back to children like her. Knowing the challenges children and their families face firsthand, we have dedicated ourselves to this yearly fundraiser for over 20 years. 

Now that my parents, Adrian and Gillian Recas, have both passed on, it has left me as the sole Recas to continue our mission to be of service to Sophie’s Place in Gordon Town, Jamaica. Sophie’s Place is part of the Mustard Seed Communities of homes that provide support and a home to a special group of challenged and disabled children. 

This year, it is even more critical for us to give back and show our support as the additional isolation and inability for people to visit with them has surely impacted the children of Sophie's Place. 

Your donation will be used to purchase much-needed supplies such as a laptop and tablet for the administrative and teaching staff, rehabilitation equipment for physical therapy,  diapers, wipes, clothing, towels, food staple items such as porridge, milk powder, sugar, and flour.  Christmas gifts will also be purchased for the staff and children. ‘Tis the season for giving!
