Help me keep my Independence

Hi, my name is Jodie and I have started this go fund me to ask for help in getting my independence back. I was born with a condition called Hypocondroplasia. It is a form a dwarfism and comes with many challenges besides being too short to reach the top shelf. I was told at a young age that due to hip dysplasia I would most likely need hip replacement surgery on both hips by the time I reached 25 - 30 years old. My hips have lasted me longer ( I just turned 40 ) but they are under a lot of stress when walking longer distances like at the mall or farmer's market. I have a manual wheelchair that I use for instances like these but it requires that someone push me. This leads to difficulties when I have my young son who uses a stroller. Who will push him? It also makes it that I have go and do things on another person's schedule and not my own. I have always been fiercely independent and I find myself limiting where I go and how often based on not wanting to bother anyone.

I have found a company that makes a light and compact folding electric mobility scooter (http://www.travelscoot.com/) There is even a version of the scooter made for people with dwarfism. It weighs 35lbs and features a lithium-ion battery. This way I can lift the scooter in and out of my car myself and it has enough battery life for a whole day a theme park. The bonus is it has the ability to attach a pull cart that we can fit for my son so he and I can go places alone!



I am hoping with your help to raise the funds for this scooter because insurance will not pay for such a need.

The total cost for the scooter and battery is $2,595.00. If I am blessed enough to receive funds beyond that they will be used to purchase additional accessories. Any money beyond that will be donated to help another person with dwarfism reach a goal of purchasing a scooter for themselves.
