Festival of Light Winter Soulstice

Donation protected
This started as a little idea sparked on a rainy Saturday evening in September. Three of us huddled together under a tent with our umbrellas waiting to see the Slambovian Circus of Dreams at Draper Park, and the much anticipated Dancing "Jellyfish." Inspired by the colorful and creative dancing umbrellas, I said, "you know, I've always wanted to make homemade lanterns and  have a winter parade through town."
"Well, let's do it," responded Cynthia with great enthusiasm and her typical go-getter style. "And, we should walk up to Draper Park and make a bonfire and have hot cocoa," she added.
Before I had a chance to respond with my usual ambivalence and trepidation, Kristen immediately jumped in, "Yes! We can do this!" And so, we were off and running.

Since then, the original idea has been growing and evolving. As of this date, in addition to the DIY lanterns, there may be some large scale puppets, some drumming, poetry, and more. We are also planning a craft event for kids to make lanterns a week before the parade. Date to be announced in the near future.

As we have started putting out feelers to the community, it turns out that a lot of people are really enthusiastic and want to get involved. We are so excited and believe we have tapped into a really wonderful event for the whole community. There is something for families, artists, musicians, poets, and cocoa lovers!

Now for the pitch:
In order to pull this off, we need to raise enough money to cover the cost of the parade and bonfire. Some of the items that we will need to purchase are: craft supplies for making lanterns; banner, firewood, a fire extinguisher, cocoa.

Also, we want you to know that we are not looking to make any money on this event. In fact, we plan to donate any additional proceeds to one of the local charities in Hastings such as Family-to-Family or Project Share.

We really want to make this a fun and beautiful event.
We really hope you can help us.

Your Winter Soulstice Sisters,
Heidi, Cynthia and Kristen
