Festival Atitlan 2019

Festival Atitlan has been celebrating cultural diversity on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala since 2001, presenting a non profit outdoor community art and music festival each year in march. Our goal has always been to produce an event that has something for everyone, and that  anyone in the community can attend and contribute. If we could, we would produce a free festival. All of the organizing staff, the musicians, artists and actors donate their time to make this one of the most eclectic and alternative events in Guatemala. Since we don't have any commercial backers, we have always made it a goal to charge the least amount possible at the door to pay for the event. We have always had a sliding scale entry philosophy and provide ways where those who can't afford it to get in by contributing some work. In the 14 events that we have produced, there have even been years that we had money left over to donate to local social causes. Everyone who knows Festival Atitlan loves it. The time has come to start the planning for the 2019 event.
Unfortunately, in 2018, for the first time, we actually spent more money than we earned. A combination of price changes and unexpected outlays (we had to rebuild all of our outhouses and much of our infrastructure, that was destroyed by vandals) made it so we weren't able to get back our investment, and it has made it necessary to change our methods. Since this is a community affair, we decided to ask the community to help support us in this endeavor, as I personally can't afford to lose any more money. All of the money that we raise here will be used exclusively to continue producing the festival. The amount posted is what it costs us to produce the event each year, and I hope that you are inspired to help us achieve our goals. We will be offering entry tickets, musical recordings of the festival, and CDs from our musician friends as incentive...
