"FESTA–A Celebration of Faith" photo-art book

With a population of over 300,00 Portuguese in the state of California, their identity and culture is relatively unknown or understood by most. I am seeking funding to cover the publication costs of a photo-art book on the Portuguese Festas of California.

 

The book FESTA – A Celebration of Faith tells the story of the Portuguese festa through poetry and black & white photography. The book is a companion to a traveling exhibit of 60 of my black & white photographs of festas entitled FESTA – A Celebration of Faith and Culture opening at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock, CA in the Spring of 2022.

 

The goal of the book and the exhibit is to bring an awareness of the unique Portuguese-Californian culture and traditions to the greater community.

 

The book will be a cherished reminder of the power of sharing a meal, in honoring one's ancestors, in perpetuating cultural bonds, and in celebrating the ever-lasting relationship between Human and Divine.

 

It is, above all, the continuous commemoration of the Portuguese in California.
