Ferris, friendly stray, vet care

Donation protected

A good samaritan contacted me through another cat rescuer in getting this stray cat, now named Ferris, as it was found on 9th and Ferry street near downtown Albany.  She has been feeding it on and off for the last year, and noticed her mouth wound and wanted it taken off the streets and get medical attention asap.

I first requested help with vet care from APD from their Linn County fund for injured and sick stray pets.  But they wanted to just euthanized after a phone consult with a vet technician.  I said no as I believe it wasn't vetted enough to know for certain if this was fixable or not.   And I promised the person who asked for help with Ferris that I would not euthanized unless dire.  It may look it, but looks can be deceiving.

So here I am, crowd funding instead and asking for your help and generosity in covering her veterinary visit and health care, god willing. Included is the invoice from today's initial visit.  We took it one step at a time to keep the expense down.  First checked for a microchip to see if an owner could be located as this fairly young (est 6 yrs) and healthy female polydactyl was fixed with a tattoo.  No chip, unfortunately.

So  then we tested for FelV (leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) to determine if we should continue getting treatment or best to be put down.  She was negative for everything, thank god!   So next the dr. took a sample of tissue to conduct an in-house cytology exam and found some odd shaped white blood cells that were concerning.   The dr. feels it is 90% from trauma with infection but we need to rule out for cancer or a virus.  So the last step, so far, is sending a sample to OSU pathologist to determine which it is.

Hopefully by Friday, May 29, 2020, we will have an answer and a final decision on which direction to go.  Currently we are treating for infection and pain with the medication prescribed.  See invoice for costs.  I would greatly appreciate any help either in money, wet food or a foster as it looking like a 2-3 month recovery.  Please and thank you!
