Feral Herd Rescue

Donation protected
Who, What, Where, and all that jazz:

An elderly woman who recently had a stroke has been overwhelmed with her horses. She loves them dearly, but because the horses were allowed to continue to breed she is in way over her head and has been for quite a while. Unfortunately the horses have suffered. There is a history of foals and mares suffering and either dying or being euthanized because of the limited care they've received. From snake bites to broken legs to abortions and colics, these horses have been quite a bit.

After refusing to give up her horses for some time, she has finally agreed to transfer ownership of all 15 horses to me.

We have 7 mares ranging from 4-15 years-old, at least 4 of whom are very obviously pregnant and ready to foal at any moment. There are 6 yearlings/coming 2 year-olds. There is one 3yo stud and 1 gelding.

The majority are Haflingers and Halfinger crosses, as well as Spotted Saddle Horses and Appaloosas.

Here is our Facebook Page where you can see all of the horses in the herd and follow along with their progress:

Essentially all of these horses are UNHANDLED, not even "halter-broke".  So they are potentially dangerous in the wrong hands.

The entire herd of feral horses are scheduled for transport to my farm on Saturday 17th, where they will have time to settle down and be separated into smaller herds. They will receive veterinary care including deworming, fecal analysis, rabies vaccines, and any care the momma mares may need. The colts will be scheduled for castration.

This rescue will take a village! This involves YOU -- if you love horses or if you love the people who are helping in this massive charitable act. We need help in every way, shape, and form. If you can't donate money, consider what skills or time you have to offer. Can you have a yard sale, bake sale, or sew some bags to sell? Can you call feed stores and get donations of products that we need? Can you organize an event fundraiser? Can you show up at an event or volunteer in any capacity? Can you foster a horse or two? There are so many ways that YOU can help these horses!

For the purpose of this Gofundme we have estimated that the cost of transport ($1200), vet care (much of this is donated!), groceries (hay and grain), and farrier trims for the first month for all 15+ horses is a total of $5000. This does not include the time triaging or gentling/training.

Any amount you can give is greately appreciated.
If you have checked out our Facebook Page and found a horse(s) in particular that you would like to sponsor the donations would be:
Filly (2): $275
Colt (5): $325
Gelding (1): $300
Mare (7): $425

If you would like use to know which horse(s) your donation is going to in particular please put their name in the comments/notes section.

Please help us by sharing this in your own circles and communities!
