This is Fendi she is my 3 year French bulldog. We really thought we were getting away with the healthiest puppy and would think we have to worry about problems until she was very old. But on Dec 29, 2020 night we had noticed a change in behavior in her. She was just playing so we thought to wait it off and see. She started to get worse over night to where she could barely function her back side. So we rushed her to the emergency and she was diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)
IVDD is a spinal cord injury, it is also described as a ruptured, slipped, bulging, or herniated disk that can occur in your dogs neck or back. It’s an age-related, gradual degenerative process that affects the spinal cord of a dog over a period of time. It is caused by your dogs activity like jumping, roughing playing, climbing stairs etc. This disease hardens the discs that will typically go on to bulge and compress the spinal cord, often damaging the dog’s nerve impulses such as those that control the bladder, bowel control, possibly nerve damage, or even paralysis. It is very painful for them also.
This is what my baby is going through. So after the vet diagnosed Fendi with IVDD. They immediately recommended us doing the surgery for it. But was also told she has a 20% chance she would of still be paralyzed with the surgery. So we took the leap of faith to go forward with it. The surgery is really expensive it was estimated at about $6000. That is already a lot for us but we knew we could survive and make it through it. So Fendi got the surgery we was told she had to stay at the hospital for a couple of days to be monitored. On Dec 31, 2020 around 5am we got a call from the vet saying Fendi experienced 2 episodes of respiratory distress and she’s been regurgitating fluids. The vet is worried that the fluids will get into her lungs and cause aspiration pneumonia. Because her breathing is already weak the vet highly recommended they stick a tube into her nose to help her breath and another tube to suck out liquids in case she regurgitates again. So now that is running us up to $8000.
If you are pet owner you know pets are more than just a pet. They are your family like children and you would do anything for them. We sure didn’t want to give up without trying everything in the book. We don’t like asking for help or for anything at all! But we are praying for some blessings and for some stress taken off our shoulders and fendi’s. I know we are all going through a crisis with this pandemic, we are willing take anything you can off! We are more than thankful and grateful for whatever help or whatever you guys have to offer to us. We just want our baby to be fine and be home with us again.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
