As many of you know, I recently finished my time as a campus minister. What an amazing 6 year journey! It was a time filled with joy, laughter, friendship and memories; however, there were also times of trial and difficulty. Nevertheless, I am so thankful to have been able to serve students and student-athletes at UNC over the years. It's a time I will remember fondly for the rest of my life. To celebrate my transition I would like to do something I've never done before: I would like to travel to Rwanda & Uganda with my parents to spend time with my family and friends. Over the past few years, I've developed relationships with all my relatives in Africa and would love to spend this time with my parents and our extended family. I believe this will be an amazing time of rest and rejuvenation for all of us...
Truth be told, this wasn't initially my idea. This past summer, as I spoke with my parents about my upcoming transition, they proposed the idea to me. They told me they were planning on making a trip in January and asked me to consider joining them. I was excited. After thinking it over I decided to join them on this journey. So, on January 12th, I will be embarking on this trip with my father and mother.
I will be in Arica for four weeks. During that time in Rwanda and Uganda I will visit with my grandmothers, my thirteen aunts and uncles, my cousins and countless other relatives. On my way back, I'll even get to visit two friends in Paris for just over a week. In so many ways this trip will be a dream come true!
In order to make this trip a reality I will need your help!
The total cost of the trip will be around $2,000! Here's the breakdown:
Plane Ticket - $1250
Travel Clinic (inc. vaccines & Malaria meds) - $300
Local Travel Costs - $150
Health Insurance - $100
Personal Expenses - $200
Will you help make this trip a reality by donating $300, $150 or $75? Seriously though, a contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated!
P.S. I've decided to make this a closed campaign. Basically what that means is that I won't be sharing this on Facebook or other forms of social media. I'd like this to be a small and more intimate campaign...
P.S. Part Deux - Who knows, as a result of your generosity you might just get a cow - or perhaps part of a cow - dedicated in your honor! (See bottom left of collage above. Aren't those some beautiful creatures?)
ATTN: Wes & Callie, John & Carol and Ryan & Kristen - your cows are off limits. However, the same cannot be said for any offspring your cows may have produced! :D
Seriously though, thank you so much for your friendship and support over the years. I'm so thankful for all of you and hope you know how much you are appreciated!
