Fulfilling A Dream

Felipe is the star student at his school! Since August, he has received the top grades in his English and math classes. But, this seventeen-year-old has a hard time focusing on his studies because he worries about his future.

My wife and I are doing all we can to help this young man. He arrived in the United States from Guatemala over two years ago seeking asylum. He has no family or even distant relatives to help him with every-day choices. He has survived on his own and desperately wants an education.

Felipe asked to see an immigration lawyer two weeks ago, so, we took him for a consultation. He will turn 18 on April 8th, which is only five days after his projected court date. If Felipe can find $3,000 to pay for the initial court costs and the down payment for the lawyer, he will be on the path to citizenship! The money he receives from his part-time job goes toward a cell phone so he can call his family and toward paying rent to a family who rents him a room.

These next five days are the only time we can try to raise money to meet the other deadlines for the court date. There will be additional costs after the court date, but the lawyer will set up a payment plan for him.

So, we are asking you to consider helping Felipe raise $3,000 so he can finish high school and become a permanent resident of the United States. We know that with his work ethic, determination, and talents he will be able to attend college and start a new life here. Felipe feels hopeless right now… but we believe that God’s hand on this young man will not only provide for this immediate need, but will sustain him through the transition to citizenship.
