Help Feed & Care for the Homeless in LA

Thank you so much to the people who donated and helped me to reach my goal in less than 24 hours! ^ . ^

If anyone would still like to donate (because $300 will go fast), I would greatly appreciate it! I want to cover as many neighborhoods as I can close by my apartment to feed the homeless and provide hygienic care kits throughout Hollywood, North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Village, Sherman Oaks, and other surrounding areas along with donating to shelters.

My Inspiration:

Feel Good Friday started out as a personal day I took for myself during quarantine where I focused on self-care and doing whatever I wanted to do that day that made me feel good.

As 2020 continued to get worse with Covid-19 and with more people experiencing loss in so many ways, I realized what would really make me feel good is using some of my extra time to give back to my community starting directly in my own neighborhood.

A little about myself and why I am starting this:

My name is Britt and I live in Valley Village, CA. My neighborhood's motto is, "It takes a Valley Village" because it takes a village to make great things happen in a community. That is the message I want to help spread. Being there for others and giving back is a passion of mine and something I want to do more of.

Giving back to the less fortunate has always been very present in my family. My time volunteering started with my dad in Northern California helping to feed the homeless for Thanksgiving  and also helping my step-mom put together sacked lunches on other occasions in our kitchen.

It had been a while since I helped feed the homeless until I volunteered with my cousin on Thanksgiving Day in 2018 during the time we both lived in Nashville, TN.  Out of any city I have ever lived in, I have never seen a city with such a strong sense of community as I have seen in Nashville. Experiencing that sense of community in Nashville reminded me of how much I love to be a part of something bigger than myself that helps others in need which I hope to help inspire more of in Los Angeles. I moved back to L.A  less than a year later and while spending time with family in Northern California, I helped my step-mom again put together sacked lunches for the homeless.

I thought to myself, “I can do this in my own apartment in L.A.”

And that is exactly what I will be doing. :)

My Vision for Feel Good Friday LA:

My hope for Feel Good Friday LA is to inspire neighborhood chapters in Los Angeles that can bring people together (while social distancing of course), getting involved to put together sacked lunches and care kits from the comfort and safety of their own homes to help those in need directly in their own neighborhoods too.

People can choose to either distribute in their own neighborhoods themselves or have myself or a close-by volunteer pick-up to donate.

To start Feel Good Friday LA off, I will personally be preparing sacked lunches and putting together hygienic care kits to distribute to the homeless around Hollywood, North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Village, Sherman Oaks, and other surrounding areas as well as donating to shelters.

***I know it can be sketchy to donate your money to someone you do not know, so I will be sharing a Google Doc providing the track history of where the money is spent along with receipts for proof of purchase and peace of mind.***

There is still so much work to be done to get Feel Good Friday LA to where I want it to be, but right now I just want to get out there to care for others and help make them feel good especially during the holidays. :)

Right now my plan is to do this one Friday a month with the hope of dedicating more time in the future.

I look forward to making other people feel good including yourself! ^ . ^

Everyone deserves a day of self-care even when they cannot provide it for themselves. <3
