Feeding homeless in downtown San Diego

Hello, My name is Pooja Mehta and a few days ago I was talking to my dad, I didn't want to eat the dinner which was made that night. After a continuous back and fourth, my dad got mad at me that I was talking from a very privileged mindset, that I did not understand how difficult it is for people to survive or even be able to get food. I thought I understood how people were living during COVID-19 and the situations they were enduring. After more back and fourth, he told me to get in the car and we drove downtown at 10pm while he showed me how the homeless of San Diego truly live. I saw a sight that honestly left me speechless. I saw people struggling to look for food, shelter, proper clothing, or even water.I had only seen the glamorous side of downtown but never the sight I was seeing at the moment. I saw people huddling in groups and sleeping on the sidewalks and parking lots. That was my pivotal moment.  

Later that night, I wanted to do something about it because it was my community who was suffering. I honestly couldn't sleep at night that night because I just saw how others were sleeping.  Thats why I and a couple of my friends took an initiative that in the light of this pandemic, to raise money and provide food for those less fortunate. Those less fortunate and unable to be able to receive food. And I believe that we all can make a positive impact to our society and community around us.   Every $10 you give will support almost 10 meals! We are trying to raise $5,000 to help support these people who are on the streets and create a positive ripple effect in our local community.
