Hello everyone! My name is Priyanka Sharma and I am a junior at Colleyville Heritage High School. Food wastage has always been an important issue to me, so I decided to do something about it, and now here we are!
Concept:
The idea of Feedbac came to me over time while staying in vacation rentals.
We always buy staple foods like milk, eggs, butter, bread, and water bottles during our stays. At the end of our stay, we inevitably have leftover food that we cannot take with us, and have to throw away.
My family owns a vacation rental in California, and our housekeeper always tells us about how much leftover food there is after every stay, and that inspired me to start Feedbac to try and curb how much food is wasted, and also to fight hunger and climate change.
About 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year, and that amounts to about $1 trillion of wasted food. Just a quarter of all that food could feed all 795 million people in the world who suffer from hunger. Food wastage and climate change also go hand in hand. Food that sits in landfills emits more than 3 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. If food wastage was a country, it would be the world’s 3rd largest emitter of greenhouse gases! Fighting the problem of food wastage can help the economy, the hungry, and the environment, so let’s fight hunger together!
Goals:
· set up volunteer group within Feedbac
· set up social media
· contact vacation rentals like AirBnB and VRBO
· apply for nonprofit status
· set up volunteer clubs in schools around the country
Once all the goals have been accomplished and we have raised funds, we will keep all donors updated on our progress through feedbac.org
Fundraising:
The funds we raise will go towards setting up the nonprofit, building the app, social media marketing, and professional services.
In lieu of cash donations, Feedbac will also benefit from time and resources donated by attorneys, accountants, technology experts, etc. Amongst other help, we will need accountants to help set up the nonprofit, legal help along the various stages of the set up process, and technology experts for setting up the app and website.
