Hello from Lisa Nemer Noah & Leah Shiely Swenson!
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all, but it is particularly scary for health care providers and the people who love them. We are the mom and future mother-in-law of Kelsey Swenson, an ICU nurse at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. We are worried for her and her co-workers and wanted to do something to help besides staying home and washing our hands!
Our idea is to use the money to purchase meals from local restaurants that are offering take-out and delivery. Feeding Kelsey and her team will help restaurants as well as the healthcare providers!
Here is what Kelsey said:
"We are an ICU team made up of nurses, physicians, nurse aids, respiratory therapists, environmental services and unit coordinators. In a given shift we have about 25 people providing direct care to our patients. There are 3 shifts a day. Many people work back to back 12 hour shifts, sometimes as long as 16 hours. Healthcare workers are worried about going to the store to be potentially exposed or potentially exposing someone else. We are on the front line fighting this virus and very much appreciate everyone helping us fight by staying at home as much as possible. And by providing food, you are letting us know that we are not alone. Knowing there will be something to eat at work takes the pressure off and makes sure we are well fed and can give the best care to our patients."
Feeding Kelsey's team also helps local restaurants as we plan to use the money to buy from local restaurants that are providing delivery.
Lisa Nemer Noah will be collecting the funds and paying the restaurants. She will keep a spreadsheet of receipts and disbursements for auditing purposes.
