Andrea Smith 3X Cancer Survivor Battling Again

Donation protected
I am Andrea's younger sister. As with most little sisters, my big sister is my best friend, my hero, and my inspiration.

She's dealt with a lot in the past few years due to her illness and I hope to make her life a little easier by lessening the financial impact so she can get the rest she needs to get back on her feet.

In May 2012 Andrea had a great opportunity to work with CenturyLink, a company she has been interested in for years. Andrea and the family packed up, and moved to Eastern North Carolina for her to accept the position.  Six months later she was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer called Adeno Sarcoma.

Since she had just started with the company, she did not qualify for disability benefits or even FMLA time. So she would work nights and weekends to make up any time she missed at work for doctor’s appointments and treatments. Over the course of three surgeries in a 6 months span, she would get out of the hospital one day, and be on the computer at work the next morning.  The summer of 2013, Andrea and her family spent most of the summer living in hotels and sleeping on the floors and couches of family members while she did daily radiation treatments at Duke Hospital, a hospital 2.5 hours away from where she lives but one of the few capable of treating such a rare cancer in North Carolina.

This year, right after a much needed vacation to Disney World she got the news that the cancer she had fought was back.

If you ask Andrea what she is worried about, she is not going to tell you about her concerns with how little research there is for her cancer, she is not even going to tell you how bad she feels most days. She will tell she is concerned about how her husband and kids are going to handle having to go thru the whole cancer treatment process again and also how she hopes she can finish the project she initiated at her job to help the local schools provide school supplies for children who need assistance. As usual, Andrea is always thinking about someone else ahead of herself.

I am asking for your help on her behalf, even with her insurance the medical bills associated with her treatment are very expensive and every appointment requires a 5 hour round trip car ride to the cancer center. Please consider contributing to her fund, every little bit counts.

Thanks

Kristine
