Feathered Hope: support for recovery after fire

In the wee hours of a cold March morning, my sister Jessica and her husband lost everything but their lives in a devastating house fire. In an instant their home and cherished safe spaces were reduced to ashes. The profound losses included the aviary full of her joyful flock of budgies and love birds and "chicken room" that was home to her 15 year old blind and deaf rooster. Even the wild bird sanctuary that was her backyard was forever changed. But out of this immense physical destruction, there were survivors. In the aftermath, firefighters found several of her pet chickens that she has rescued over the last few years. Roxie, Maria and Miss Dodo (the silky pictured) survived the fire and received skillful veterinary care for burns and smoke inhalation. Miraculously, they survived and are on their way home to new accommodations. But the costs for the veterinary care and boarding during this process have been an added burden to an already overwhelming financial picture. I have started this fundraising campaign to help her recover some of these costs for the life-saving veterinary care of these birds that bring her such joy. All donations will go directly to her for use as she sees fit in rebuilding her life and caring for her birds.
