Fear & Loathing in Amish Country

I was my fathers caretaker from 2004 - 2009, giving up higher education and full time employment to take care of him as none of my siblings were willing to move back home. As I am disabled there was a trust fund set up for me although I did not know the details, only Dad promising I would be taken care of financially. I worked part time to support myself in addition to caretaking for him. When they sold the farm my share of the money went to unpaid hospital bills as the Amish would not pay them.
I am raising a quarter of the amount that Dad told me was in the trust and no I do not expect to be able to raise the full amount.
Every bit helps.
I cannot help LGBTQ+ Amish until I can establish myself.

The GoFundMe is for both! Although my own family told me they would help and I called them with the link they have yet to make good on their word.

LGBTQ+ Amish could number in the thousands... all without resources.

Amish will not trust "outsiders" i.e. non-Amish to help.

This will be used to secure long term housing and travel to Amish communities to begin dialogue. When my book THE LITERARY PARTY: GROWING UP GAY AND AMISH IN AMERICA  was published it was nominated for a Lambda Literary award but I never heard anything from the Amish. I recently found out my poetry collection did INDEED make an impact - Amish bishops are using it as an example to prop up their homophobic sermons! Keep in mind there has never been ANY ex-Amish poet or openly gay ex Amish poetry. Until me! & until then I remain broken!
