Hello friends, I, Sandy Nguyen, a first-generation college student and daughter of immigrant parents, got accepted into nursing school and need help during these hard times.
Because of COVID-19, it has been hard to provide financially. My parents work hard every day and were unemployed for a few months due to the pandemic. As much as how proud my parents are, my education isn't the first priority. I don't have much help as all of my family is in Vietnam. My grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins do not live in America and all I have are my mom and dad.
Becoming a nurse has been a dream of mine to have to help others and becoming the first-generation in my family to go to college to hopefully help my family back home in Vietnam to make them proud. I come from a bad childhood and didn't do well in school until my senior year of high school is when I started making changes in my life which lead me to where I am today. If you were to tell me 5 years ago that I would get accepted into my number one choice of nursing school, I would think you were lying. I've got to where I want to be but unfortunately, money problems will always be in the back of my head. I have been working two jobs as much as I can but unfortunately cannot meet my goal in time. For one semester, it is $10,123 and I have been applying for scholarships and still working full-time. The program that I have been accepted to, is a two-year program so I am asking for a little help to get me by. I don't want to burden my parents with more money problems as they have their own and I plan to take out loans which will help me now but not in the long-run.
