My Mom Needs Help

My Mom has a rare degenerative disease of the brain called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). It is similar to Parkinson’s as far as having difficulty with moving but it is more severe. She has a complete loss of balance and falls backwards when standing unaided. It also causes problems with eye movements making every day functioning quite challenging. She also has difficulty swallowing and speaking. As a result of this condition, which has been progressively worsening over the past few years, she cannot be alone. EVER. Her life is at risk if she is alone.
Sadly, on July 21st of this year, her husband of 37 years,Felipe, passed away quite suddenly and unexpectedly. We had to scramble to apply for services and home care and since July have spent almost $50,000 on 24 hour home care. Thankfully, Medicaid is now paying a portion of this expense, but we still have $385 per week out of pocket to cover. This is creating a huge burden and hardship for us and we don’t know how long we can continue. We have been quite fortunate to have found 2 wonderful aides who have become like family members. Our goal is to keep Mom at home for the remainder of her life. Her worst nightmare is a nursing home.
$20,000 will pay for one year of home care. Any little bit towards this will be incredibly helpful.
