Cancer Sucks - Pat's Medical Fund

Donation protected
We have a Battle on our hands and Pat needs a team of warriors … right now Optimism, Friendship, Family and Fundraising make up the key elements of our Battle Plan.

In mid-September Pat walked into my classroom not her usual self and said she had just found a lump on her neck and needed to go to the doctors.  As per usual she was worried and apologetic about leaving myself and the students rather than thinking about herself.

Even after prayers, finger crossing and a whole boatload of wishful thinking, Pat has been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma, and will be starting Chemo this week.

If anyone knows me I’m a fixer and this I can’t fix, but along with all Pat’s friends and family we can make this battle a little easier for her.

A little background on Pat for those who don’t know her too well.

Pat is my parapro and she works daily with a group of challenging students to help them become successful as they transition into life in high school and after.  She goes out of her way to help everyone out, not once thinking about only herself, I have never had a para like her she is pure gold.

I know her family and friends outside of work will also say the same.  She always worries about them, putting their needs and happiness often before her own.  Pat’s been married to Guy for almost 40 years, they have a partnership that’s solid and full of love. Even though she has been told multiple times she deserves a medal for putting up with him, she wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s a mom of three awesome children, Elizabeth, Travis and Tyler, and they have blessed her with three adorable grandchildren, Clayton, Braden and Sarah.  Pat has told me she is more worried about Guy and the kids than herself, which is an example of her typical personality.

Pat had a very successful career in banking until the economy collapsed and since then she has been working two jobs, to pay the bills and make ends meet.  With the cancer Pat will have to miss multiple days of work and more than likely have to stop working one of those jobs. Pat keeps telling me “I’ll be fine, I’ll manage, I have insurance and sick time”  Yeah she does, but those couple of weeks she has banked will disappear quickly and co-pays are crazy, not even thinking about losing a large portion of income.

In order to offset some medical expenses we’re going to try and raise $2000 which is probably only a drop in the Ocean.  So in lieu of flowers, food etc. please donate whatever you can to make this battle a little easier.  It’s going to be a long hard fight but with all of us behind her we can beat this and kick cancer in the butt.

Love Always
