My name is Adam Jacques and I am the Police Chief here in Fort Benton, Montana. I have been in law enforcement for over 22 years and recently retired from the United States Navy Reserve after serving 22 years. I am an EMT, volunteer firefighter and a member of search and rescue. I have dedicated my life to public safety and to helping others. I came here to ask for help, in a project that is needed to ensure our communities in Montana can fight this horrible drug trend that is ravaging our nation.
Our community is small and has that hometown feel that so many enjoy, however as we all know there is no such thing as Mayberry, we have crime, drugs all the problems of the bigger cities. It is my goal that adding a K-9 to our city and my family will allow Fort Benton, Chouteau County and Montana to fight against this horrible drug problem that continues to grow.
This dog will also be trained in searching and will be a valuable asset in finding missing children, missing elderly and lost hunters, for any community in the state that requests our assistance. This dog will be a German Shorthaired Pointer, so will be able to be used in our schools, and community events and generate a needed connection between law enforcement and our community.
The Fort Benton K-9 program will be solely funded by community donations and hopefully grants. The dog, training location, time period to get the dog is all in place, now all we need is to raise the money. The money raised will be used for the purchase of the dog and training program, vehicle upgrades, veterinary care, and daily operations and to fund the program for years to come.
Photos of the dog we are trying to bring home will be posted next week and we will continue to update with additional information. We have a short period to raise the funds. In a small community like ours, literally any little bit that you can donate to make this a reality will be huge.
So whether you love dogs and want to see the dog in the community, you are against drugs, you want to help a long-time law enforcement officer/veteran reach an important milestone in his career or for all of those reasons, please donate and share if you can.
Thank you from me, my officers, community members and everyone else who this program will assist.
- If for any reason over the years, the K-9 program is ended, any donations will be distributed to other K-9 non-profits, for similar purposes!
