We are the Fort Berthold Legacy Vision (FBLV.ORG), a grassroots organization made up largely of on and off TAT reservation members dedicated to a just tribal society for the benefit of ALL citizens.
In 1986, an overwhelming majority of off-reservation tribal members was disfranchised from their rights to vote on the FBIR due to a decision taken on their behalf by the tribal government that eliminated absentee voting ballots. THIS DECISION WAS UNLAWFUL and Article X Amendment of the MHA Nation's 1937 tribal Constitution gives its people the express and independent power to petition the Secretary of the Interior (SOI) for relief of their grievances against their tribal government.
In July 2018, FBLV presented the TAT's tribal Government a petition to restore off-reservation voting rights. Our petition was completely disregarded by the same people who have now misappropriated the TRIBAL PEOPLE'S INHERENT SOVEREIGNTY through the exercise of a virtual monopoly of power on the FBIR.
FBLV has therefore no choice and on behalf of all tribal citizens, take the matter further to the tribal and federal courts. However, to initiate and maintain this grassroots goal requires support and capital in excess of $150,000 due to selecting experienced federal Indian law legal counsel, attorney retainer's fee monies, filings, motions and other unexpected expenses that could turn into thousands by the time the petition is taken to federal court.
Among the first donations, the group has just collected $5,000 in matched donations; nevertheless, more matchers and donors are needed.
