Fawn Hartjoy Needs Transportation

Donation protected
This fund raiser is for my daughter, Fawn.  I suppose it’s for much more than just her, really, since we are a mother and daughter working together to take care of her two daughters and my disabled mother here in our VERY rural home.

Her 1997 Montero just suffered a fatal breakdown. We live 7 miles from our tiny desert town, (population of about five thousand), 25 miles from Victor Valley College, where she is pursuing her degrees (with a 3.8 GPA), double majoring in psychology and sociology.

What we need the money for is to buy a reliable used vehicle for her to get around and specifically for her to get back and forth to college.
My daughter is an amazing, strong woman and mother, who has been working very hard to rebuild her life after leaving her abusive husband in May of 2014. Her personal experience of both surviving and working to recover from domestic abuse have led her in her educational goal Psychology and Sociology, to have a career bringing her personal experience and empathy to help domestic abuse victims and survivors.
Along with being a full time single mom and going to school full time, Fawn works part time as a caregiver, helping me to care for her Grandma, who has been disabled for many years and currently is in Home Hospice care due to advanced chronic COPD.

I also work part time taking care of my mom and care for my wonderful granddaughters while Fawn’s in class or studying, and have a small craft store on Etsy. Our combined monthly income is well below the poverty line, but in general we muddle through. Until something like this happens.

We need a truck or SUV, hopefully with 4 wheel drive, rather than a less costly used car for a few good reasons. We live on our family property in the high desert of southern California, on a dirt road that is hard on auto suspension when it’s dry, and suffers flash flooding several times a year. Our road sometimes remains flooded/mudded out for weeks and is impossible to drive without a high profile vehicle. There are times when a 4x means the difference between groceries or not.  We also have to haul our waste to the dump.  And last, but not least, I have fibromyalgia and often need to use a motorized wheelchair that I can’t haul with my little car.

Fawn is on break from classes this week, but will recommence beginning Monday, June 11, 2018 with the accelerated Summer schedule.  She’ll have classes Monday through Thursday. If she has to drive my car to VVC it would leave me, my little mommy and my two grandgirls stranded out here.

We are determined to not let this interrupt her progress, so in order to make her classes until we can get her a truck, we will be getting both girls dressed and into the car to get Fawn to the bus in town (14 mile round trip) in the morning and then doing it again for a 50 mile round trip to pick her up at the college since the bus schedule out here is wonky and her connections in the evening won’t get her all the way home.

We can do this for a little while, but it’s going to be really hard on me with fibromyalgia, and will necessitate leaving my bed-bound little mommy all alone out here for longer than I like.

We really, really need help as soon as possible to get Fawn a reliable used vehicle.

Your donations, large or small, will mean so much to us all as we continue to work and strive toward Fawn’s educational goals, and toward the day when she can be of help to others suffering abuses in their relationships.

We all thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your help.
