Daniel's Heart Transplant Medical Fund

Daniel Harrigan is a Griswold, CT native currently battling stage 3 heart failure and awaiting approval for a life-saving heart transplant. He is a husband and father, working full time for the town Stoughton, MA Water Department in addition to working a second job at Gillette’s Stadium to help support his young family.

Daniel was born with situs inversus and dextracardia, a complex defect that essentially means many of his internal organs, including his heart, are in the reversed position. After two open heart surgeries in childhood and two pacemakers as a young adult, the time has finally come for Daniel to receive a new heart that will save his life and allow him more time with his family and loved ones. Understandably, the surgery will be a complex and risky operation, given the unusual configuration of Daniel’s anatomy.

Thankfully, some of the best cardiologists in the world work miracles in Boston, MA and Daniel’s medical insurance will help to cover some of the costs. Not covered in all of this, however, are the expenses that will undoubtedly pile up when Dan is forced to be out of work for a minimum of six months while he recovers. Sadly, his insurance company has informed him that his disability insurance will not apply during this time, due to the fact that his condition is “pre-existing.” As the primary breadwinner for his wife and young son, Daniel is understandably worried about how we will afford to pay his mortgage and put food on the table, when he should only be worried about improving his health and recovering. Most concerning is the fact that he could even lose his health insurance unless he’s able to pay the premium while he’s out of work.
