Help Fatimah stay in College

Donation protected
Fatimah needs your help and support.

Fatimah is my niece. She needs help with her college tuition, housing, textbooks, and stationery costs. She is currently enrolled on a 3year Teaching Diploma at Seke Teacher's  College in Zimbabwe. Please help me raise the funds to get through her course. Fatimah’s fees are $800 US ($1000 AUD) per term.

Fatimah is a very intelligent girl. When she was in high school, she  received sponsership for tuition  from a family friend, a local tobacco farmer who unfortunately had to leave the country due to the horrible farm evictions that were being perpetrated by the Mugabe regime at the time. Fatimah is a kind, generous and compassionate girl who, wants to be a teacher and help other children in her community when she completes her course. She is one of many children my parents, with our help, have been helping raise and pay for their education. Since she started her Diploma last year in September, her mother Daina, with the help of my parents, has since managed to raise enough money for her first term tuition and housing costs. My husband and I paid for her laptop, texbooks and stationery costs.

This term, she had to pay $800 US ($1015 AUD) in fees  by the end of February 2018 to continue her course. Her mother managed to raise US$200 ($250 AUD) which covered some of her transport and living costs and my parents sold one of their young bulls to chip in as they always do. Their cattle stock is dwindling with every term as they also pay fees for my orphaned nephew and niece whose father, my brother,  succumbed to AIDS, eight years ago. My parents are also helping other kids in their village with clothing and food. These kids below are having a peanut snack at my parents's place. This is a passion project they have been doing for years.

Two years ago we flew my parents to Australia and I put out a call for help with clothing, stationery and books. The response I got from family, friends and the community at my son's school was amazing. I was chuffed to be able to send my parents home with two suitcases packed with clothing and books for their community (see picture below). I was so touched by everyone's generosity that I got to thinking that perhaps we could also help Fatimah.

Whilst there has been some potentially positive changes in Zimbabwe recently, it's still a country with a long way to go. There's still massive unemployment,  frighteningly high rates of HIV/AIDS, sexual abuse and teenage pregnancy.  Sadly, but perhaps not unexpectedly, there is also shocking number of girls of Fatimah's age committing suicide because they're faced with these hardships.

With college funding, Fatimah's future prospects are much more promising.

Please help keep Fatimah to complete her Teaching course, she deserves a shot at life.

Fatimah (R), my mum in the middle and Fatimah's sister, Amina (L). Amina is a hairdresser and did such a great job making her sister look amazing for her enrollment interview at Seke Teachers College.

I am happy to report that, since I put out a cry for help, here on Gofundme, we have managed to raise $1470 AUS, that is including donations from my children’s grandparents Phil and Elli, and our amazing friend Jen.

I would like to thank you all for your generosity and kindness. We have since paid this term’s fees and are halfway raising for the next term.

Please keep sharing Fatimah’s dream and help her stay in college and complete her course.

Thank you
