Father's Nasopharyngeal Cancer
Donation protected
My name is Brian, my dad's name is Staporn. In April 2020 my father got laid off of his job because of Covid-19. Since then he had a small pain in his sinus, but because he lost his job he has lost his health insurance.
In April 2021, he turned 65 and became eligible for Medicare. I went with him to see a doctor about his sore throat and blocked sinuses. At this point, he would bleed from his nose and have a sore throat. He didn't see a doctor for a year because he didn't want to spend the money without insurance, he lost 50 lb. in a year. After paying for expensive PET scans and a biopsy, we found out he had stage 4 cancer, squamous cell carcinoma in his nasopharynx. It is blocking his sinuses, it spread to between the lungs, and now also has single tumor in the spine.
The doctor is prescribing chemoimmunotherapy along with medication we just do not have the funds to pay for. Please help. Even with Medicare covering 80%of the costs, we will still be struggling to pay all the costs of his medicine and chemo drugs, on top of his credit card debt.
My dad has toughed out a lot, and raised me through an abusive marriage with my mom. He lived his whole life with polio afflicted in one leg, so it is skinny and looks like a child's leg, yet he walked on it for hours doing a standing/walking job to support my mom and I. He is the light of my life, and I have been taking care of him these past few weeks. It is really hard watching him waste away, constantly clearing and bleeding from his sinuses. The lymph nodes in his head and neck are all swollen. I really hope the chemoimmunotherapy works.
The nasopharyngeal cancer makes it so he is hard of hearing, and he cannot smell or taste anything. Maybe the chemoimmunotherapy can at least help him taste his favorite food again.
