Father's Journey to Protect His Children Through Gaza’s Win

My name is Yassen, and I’m writing this in what is perhaps the darkest chapter of my life. I am a father of two young children, and we are now struggling to survive after losing everything we once called home.

I grew up in Rafah, Gaza. Life there has always been challenging, but we managed to build a small life filled with love, hope, and dreams for a better future. I worked tirelessly to provide for my family, to give my children a sense of stability and warmth despite the daily hardships. But now, that life is gone. The place where we celebrated birthdays, the walls that held our memories, and the streets that I called home—are all destroyed.

When the situation became unbearable, I had to make a heartbreaking decision to leave Rafah. With my two young children, I moved to a small camp where we’re trying to survive. Here, we are surrounded by so many who have lost loved ones, homes, and hope. We share cramped, makeshift spaces and struggle to meet even our most basic needs. Winter is coming soon, and the thought of facing it here, in such vulnerable conditions, fills me with worry.

As a father, it’s devastating to see my children cold and hungry, to see them witness loss at such a young age. They are just babies—they don’t understand why we had to leave or why we don’t have a warm bed anymore. I am reaching out for help, hoping to provide some relief, some warmth, and a bit of hope for my children as we navigate this painful time.
