On September 10th, Nancy left her place of employment, to begin the drive home (normally a 45 minute drive). An hour past her usual arrival time, I became concerned, and called her on the cell. She said there was a lot of traffic, but thought she would be home soon. Another hour passed, and I called her again.
She seemed confused, and could not identify her location. To make matters worse, it was getting dark outside. At this time, I called the local police station, and explained the situation to them. I asked if they could ping her cell phone, so maybe we could get a location on it. The officer said he would call me back in a few minutes. When he informed me that she was in Greenwich, Ct. (over 100 miles from home !), I was shocked. The officer notified the Greenwich Police to put a BOLO out on my wife`s car. Soon after that she was pulled over, and the officer saw that she obviously needed medical attention, and called the Paramedics to the scene. They rushed her to Greenwich Hospital, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. A Cat Scan revealed two masses, which had caused shifting of the brain.
The neurosurgeons I spoke with emphasized the seriousness of her condition, and that she would need surgery very soon. She underwent surgery, where the larger of the tumors was removed, the doctors explained that the removed mass would be studied, so that the best course of treatment (hopefully less invasive) would be determined for the other mass.
So, we`re not out of the woods yet, we`re taking it one day at a time.
