Fashionably ill: TV show Pilot

Donation protected
Donations will fund the development of my TV pilot, Fashionably ill ®,  an inspirational show of resilience, courage, and empathy against a backdrop of fashion.

My name is Jessica Gimeno and I am a TEDx speaker , health writer and lipstick lover.  4 years ago I launched a website, Fashionably ill ® , developed to help people with illnesses and disabilities. My focus is helping people survive pain (mental or physical) with style and humor.
To reach even more people, I am developing a TV pilot.  The pilot will feature me giving a makeover to Megan (see video), a woman who just beat stage 4 "incurable" cancer.  The show will also highlight practical style tips viewers can use.

I live with Myasthenia Gravis and 4 other chronic illnesses.  I gained 10 dress sizes and 30 pounds in 2 years, after I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 2008. I was bedridden for over a year and didn't recognize myself.  Other women with illnesses and disabilities who experienced changes in their physical appearance told me how hard this was: the loss of control over their physical appearance. Our suffering was exacerbated by people pointing out these changes in a negative way.

Searching for help on how to find flattering clothes for my changing body and flattering make-up, led me to a dead end. There were Stylists to help all types of people, but not twhose who were ill.   I have given makeovers to help individuals with PCOS, Multiple Sclerosis, cancer, fibromyalgia, diabetes, and depression.

My passion to help women led me to launch my website in 2012.  Fashionably ill ® is a site that gives fashion tips and provides resources on chronic pain, disabilities, and mental health. Readers can sign up to receive a newsletter and receive my free "Depression Toolkit".

I am developing a TV pilot so I can help more people by explaining the practical makeup and fashion tips that people watching can use at home. We will discuss the best clothing brands for all body shapes and sizes and highlight fashion lines developed for people with disabilities, i.e. ABL denim.   I am a contributor to The Huffington Post and a high school debate coach.  I have been featured in NBC News , MSNBC , everydayHEALTH, BuzzFeed, and WEGO Health.

We are filming Megan's makeover on location.

Your donations will help pay for the cost of filming and producing this pilot.

Thanks, everyone!  You're the best.
