Sanctuary Volunteering Adventure

Would you like to be part of making my face look this joyful everyday for a year?  Want to contribute to the well-being of farm animals rescued from suffering?  Then you can support my Volunteering Adventure as I spend a year volunteering at various farm animal sanctuaries across the US and possibly Canada and Mexico!



I have been an elementary school teacher for 20 years and feel that my most important goals have been to model and teach children compassion and guide them in becoming productive members of a community. During the past two years I've been sharing my adventures at farm sanctuaries with students to not only build compassion, but to help them realize their capacity for making a difference...even a young age. Here is a wish one of my students has for this new year.




I am taking an unpaid leave of absence from my teaching position and setting off on an adventure to figure out how to best use my teaching experience and skill to be an advocate and educator for these amazing farm animals I've met and all other sentient beings. I am interested in learning more about Humane Education and how I can integrate it's premises into my teaching...and into my own life.


This year I've been able to tell the stories of these curious and friendly non-human beings to 40 students...but I want to reach many more! I believe that learning compassion through meeting and hearing the stories of these great creatures is key to guiding students toward being part of an understanding, supportive and compassionate community.




This volunteering experience will be funded in large part by the generous donations of those who read this page. I'm excited to take this risk and follow my passions where they may lead. I know I will be a more compassionate person after this year and will be a great example for students of how one person can follow their dreams and make a difference!




P.S. The thought of spending my days cleaning up after, feeding, caring for and learning from farm animals absolutely fills my heart with joy and takes me to an amazingly peaceful place. Thanks!
