On January 30th my father, Farion was working on a 10ft step ladder inspecting a roof when the ladder kicked out from under him and he fell face first onto the concrete. He was able to get up and drive a couple miles to a fire department to call EMS.
The ambulance took him to New Hanover Regional Hospital as a level 1 head trauma case. Other injuries included a shattered left wrist, a fractured right eye socket and sinus canal, and a fractured number 1 vertebra on his spinal cord.
He is now at home recovering with a minimum of 6-8 weeks stuck in a neck brace with restrictions of up to 4 months where he is not allowed to work. His wrist is plated and screwed and no movement or weight is allowed for a minimum of 2 weeks.
He has no medical insurance and we are currently trying to apply for medical financial aid. We are confident that we will receive some level of medial compensation but the ambulance ride, anesthesia and medication are not covered.
For the next 4 months he will not be able to work or have any form of income. As many of you know Farion has been a consistent staple in the community volunteering for years with organizations such as Toys 4 Tots, CBA (Concerned Bikers Association) & other fundraising events for charity. Anyone that knows Farion knows he his selfless and always willing to give a helping hand whenever he is able.
I struggled with creating this Gofundme as we Blacks are hard headed as ever and are not very good at asking for help. I know when he finds out about this he won’t be too happy but everyone needs some help sometimes.
