***EDIT*** additional monies not needed for Gizmo's bills/memorial will be donated to the Animal Care Society, a local no-kill shelter. They do amazing things for dogs and cats in our town and work tirelessly to find homes for every single needy animal. Thank you for your donations above and beyond, I know Gizmo would be so happy to know she is helping other cats and dogs find forever homes. At 10:45 tonight, our beloved cat, Gizmo, passed away. An hour earlier, we noticed she had collapsed, could not move her back legs, and was panting heavily as if she couldn't breath. We rushed her to the vet hospital and she went immediately into intensive care. They found her lungs were filled with fluid and suspected blood clots had cut off circulation to her back legs and were causing ongoing issues with her heart. They put her on oxygen and gave her medication to clear the fluid from her lungs, but after fighting hard to save her, she went into cardiac arrest and passed away.

We are absolutely heartbroken. Gizmo wasn't just a cat. She was a companion and an inspiration. She was my first "child," and I was looking forward to our son, who is due to be born any day now, getting to know her and loving her as much as we loved her. She was the inspiration behind Sir Edgar Allan Kipling, magical talking cat extraordinaire, the beloved wizard's familiar character from my best-selling book series, "Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus: The Lily Singer Adventures." She was a tenderhearted snugglebug, always wanting to be near you, loving on you, licking you, and letting know you were loved. She kept me company on many long days and nights writing my books when my husband was working or away. She was constant in her loyalty and unfailing in her affection. She even has a book dedicated to her ("Cat Magic" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CZY2PRG)

Right now, being nine months and two days pregnant, I don't even know how I'm going to process this. At the moment every cent of our funds is tied up in medical expenses to ensure our son's health and safe birth. We told the vet to do whatever they could to save Gizmo, having faith we would find some way to cover the cost. Even though they weren't able to do much for her, such an emergency visit, oxygen, IV, medication, etc, cost a hefty sum that we do not have. But we know that Gizmo had many fans out there who saw her "helping" me write through social media and who knew her through the fiction inspired by her. We are asking our family and friends, and Gizmo's fans, to help us through this hard time, in memory of her and all the love she gave to the very end.

The funds raised will be used to cover the medical expenses accrued trying to save her life. If that goal is met, we will use the extra to pay for her cremation, and if that is able to be covered as well, I will put whatever remains toward some kind of fitting memorial for us to remember Gizmo by. Any left-over funds raised that aren't needed to cover those three things will be donated to a local no-kill shelter (***EDIT***since last night, we have chosen Animal Care Society as our donation recipient, they do amazing things for dogs and cats in our town and work tirelessly to find homes for every single needy animal. Thank you so much for helping us through this hard time. We appreciate your donations more than you can know. They will help us cope with this crisis amid very stressful times as well as remember Gizmo as she deserves to be remembered.

I will be adding more of her story, how she came to be a famous, bestselling character inspiration, and lots more photos later, when it isn't after midnight and I'm not crying an ugly river of tears. Again, thank you. RIP Gizmo The Cat. You will always live in our hearts, and in the hearts of the fans of Sir Kipling.
