FAMS Walk To Water

Tax deductible
Did you know:

1 billion people live without clean drinking water.

Every 19 seconds, a mother loses her child because of a water related illness.

443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases.

Half of the world's hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water-related disease.

The 6th and 8th grade students at Franklin Avenue Middle School finished a book called “A Long Walk to Water” which is a nonfiction story about the water crisis in Sudan.  The students learned about the harsh living conditions through not only reading this book and watching videos, but also interactive activities between the sixth and eighth grade classes.  There was an overarching sense of wanting to take action when the book ended- and help out the area that we just invested so much curricular time on.

After researching, we found a unique opportunity that aligns with the outcome we feel would benefit our students.  The Iron Giraffe challenge, organized by  Salva Dut (the main character in the book we read) WFSS Founder and Senior Adviser is asking schools to help him drill more wells with his drilling rig or "Iron Giraffe."  Each school that completes the challenge, raising at least $1,000 by April 6, 2018, will get one entry in the Iron Giraffe Challenge drawing to win a chance for Salva Dut to come and speak at our school.  Additionally, the school that raises the most money overall will automatically win for Salva Dut to pay a visit to FAMS.

Please help us raise funds for this amazing cause that will change lives around the world.
