As most of our friends and family know, 2014 was a tough year in the Barnes household as one of our own was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The support we received as a family during this time was fantastic, but the support that our mum Catherine has received, and is still receiving, from the (Donation funded) Balbriggan Cancer Support Group has been incredible. In an effort to give back to them we've decided as a family that we wanted to take on our own personal challenges to raise some much needed funds and create more awareness for the Balbriggan Cancer Support Group.
Catherine has decided that she will take part in the Christmas morning Swim In The Sea at Balbriggan Beach.
For the rest of us - Myself (Karen) my Dad (Declan) and my Sister (Rachel) have decided on a 2 part challenge. The 1st part is to complete the Dublin City Marathon - it will be a 1st ever marathon for each of us - We’ve already had quite the journey so far, from struggling to complete our 1ST 5K with 60second run intervals in our initial training to completing 16mile runs while on holiday in Spain. Our marathon is just two weeks away now and dare I say we think we might just make it!
The second part of the Challenge takes place 10 weeks later. We will all be travelling to Orlando to participate in something called the "Dopey Challenge". When you consider 4 runs (5k, 10k, 1/2 Marathon & Full Marathon to finish) in 4 consecutive days, the name of the challenge is quite fitting!! You've had the hard sell, The Cause justifies it, we need to raise much needed funds to help the Balbriggan Cancer Support Group continue to provide the tremendous help and support to those who need it most, so we now ask each of you - All of our friends, family, collegues, aquaintences, and anyone else who happens to be reading this to dig deep and make a donation to this worthy cause using the link to our gofundme page or by coming to us personally and making a donation. We want to raise a minimum of €2,000 so every donation however large or small will be gratefully received.
